Michael Heup is a Special Olympics Maryland Athlete from Davidson, Maryland. Michael began his Special Olympics career in 2001. He has participated in Soccer, Floor Hockey, Basketball, Bowling, Track and Field, Tennis and Snowshoe. Michael is a graduate of the Beginner Global Messenger series which helps teach Special Olympics Maryland athletes how to write a speech and deliver a speech. It also trains athletes on talking to the media and promoting Special Olympics. Michael has done many speeches since his graduating from that course 3 years ago. He has spoken to service clubs, law enforcement and sponsors across Maryland. His biggest speech has been to a national Sam’s Club associates at their annual meeting in Texas. A crowd of over 3000 associates.
Michael has worked at Giant Food for 12 years and worked at Al Packer’s White Marsh Ford for 2 years. He works there from March to September on one or two weekends a month.
Michael has been the Special Olympics Maryland Law Enforcement Torch Run Athlete Liasion for the last three years. Travelling to international conferences in the Bahamas, New Orleans, LA and Orlando. He has recently been chosen to represent Maryland and US Law Enforcement as a Torch Runner in Austria for the 2017 Special Olympics World Games where he will be an ambassador by running and carrying the torch spreading the word about the great work Law Enforcement does for Special Olympics athletes around the world.
