Meet Our 2016 Summer Interns

Soon after the spring semester ended, Special Olympics Maryland welcomed seven students from across the state to our team for the summer.  Representing six different colleges and a variety of majors, these students took part in hands-on learning experiences reinforcing their course curriculum and strengthening Special Olympics Maryland programming.  This summer’s interns & college volunteers and projects were:

  • Anna Cosentino, Elon University: Social Media Analytics
  • Danielle Allentuck, Ithaca College: Athlete Story Reporting
  • Tom Hoffmeister, Mount St. Mary’s University: Volunteer Management
  • Hana Zwick, Eckerd College: St. Mary’s County Development
  • Kira Northrop, Shepherd University: Athlete Leadership Programs
  • Nils Lofgren, Villanova University: Finance Data Tracking
  • Claire Huston, Mount St Mary’s University: Young Professional & University Engagement

Mount St. Mary’s Intern, Claire Huston reflects on her experience with Special Olympics Maryland: “…my time with Special Olympics Maryland has brought my communications major to life!  I enjoyed the opportunity to apply different skills and concepts in a real-world setting while supporting the mission and athletes of Special Olympics Maryland!”

Though the summer went by quickly, much was accomplished through their efforts.  The energy, humor, and fun that they brought to the office will be missed!

Special Olympics Maryland strives to provide high-quality learning experiences tailored to a student’s academic interests and career aspirations.  If you or someone you know is interested in an internship or volunteer experience with Special Olympics Maryland, please contact Jeff Abel at
