July 2018

Greetings Supporter,

Over the course of history in so many instances, individuals with intellectual disabilities have intentionally not been included. While there are positive examples of progress, where people have chosen to “include” individuals with intellectual disabilities, we still have a long way to go.

As we celebrate 50 years of Special Olympics, I like to think that we are 50 years young with exceptional growth potential.

Choose to Include,

James C. Schmutz
President and CEO

Maryland Lights Up For Inclusion

On July 20th, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics movement in Chicago where the first official competition was held in 1968.

To celebrate inclusion on this historic day, over 225 landmarks across the world lit up red. Here in Maryland, we watched as the Emerson Bromo Seltzer Tower and the Maryland Governor's Mansion lit up for inclusion!
