2026 Winter Games

We held our Winter Games at WISP, February 22 – 23, 2026 where 186 athletes and Unified teammates competed in Snowshoeing and Alpine Skiing. Did you know that only about 3% of the population in the United States ski? And less than 1% snowshoe. Skiing and Snowshoeing exemplify the value of our mission and sport in breaking stereotypes about individuals with intellectual/development disabilities. Our skiers and snowshoe athletes demonstrate physical and mental prowess in skills necessary to compete in these disciplines. When they are on the snow they are simply competitive athletes who ski and snowshoe, they are not defined by their intellectual disability.
Thank you to Special Olympics Maryland skiers and snowshoers for your commitment to training and competing this winter. Thank you family members and supporters who got athletes to and from training and Winter Games. Thank you Frederick for hosting a snowshoeing competition prior to Winter Games. Thank you to all the volunteers who made training and Winter Games possible. Thank you WISP for providing great competition venues at Winter Games.
The Winter Games Opening Ceremony included the Flame of Hope skiing down the mountain and our Snowshoe and Alpine Skiing include a wide range of ability levels.
