2026 State Gold Championships – Cancelled

It is with great disappointment that we share that the Special Olympics Maryland State Golf Championships at Queenstown Harbor Golf Course on Sunday, September 27, 2026 has been cancelled.

Special Olympics Maryland, in consultation with our partners at the Maryland State Golf Association (MSGA), the Golf Professional from Queenstown, some of our Golf Games Management and Sports Management Team members, and several SOMD coaches and Area Program Leaders throughout the state, has made this decision to cancel the event.  The forecasts for Queenstown related to the impending nor’easter hitting the east coast have progressively worsened over the last 24 hours and are expected to continue to stay at the current severity or possibly become worse. This includes significant steady rain as well as steady winds in the 20mph range (with gusts up to 30mph) throughout the entire day Sunday, making for conditions hazardous for the competitors, officials, volunteers and spectators at this event. Sadly, the event cannot be rescheduled.

This decision is not made lightly, as we all considered the impact on all involved with the event, specifically the competitors.  With all decisions, SOMD takes the health and safety as the most important factor into these decisions.

SOMD does recognize and shares the disappointment for all coaches and competitors, as well as volunteers and other supporters looking forward to this championship.  SOMD does hope that all had a great season of golf over the last several months.  Through the efforts of the coaches and competitors, we hope the season benefitted all with friendships, improvement of skills and enjoying the sport of golf.

Thank you for all of the efforts for a successful golf season.
