2024 Law Enforcement Torch Run

The 2024 Maryland Law Enforcement Torch Run was a huge success and raised awareness and funds for Special Olympics Maryland. The Torch Run, which took place in various locations across Maryland, involved law enforcement officers running alongside Special Olympics Maryland athletes, carrying the “Flame of Hope.” This year’s event spanned several days and included runs in multiple counties.

One of the highlights was the opening ceremony at Towson University on June 21, which marked the beginning of the Special Olympics Maryland Summer Games. Over 30 officers, family members and athletes greeted Special Olympics Maryland delegations and concluded the ceremony by escorting the torch through SECU arena and then lit the Cauldron to declare the game open.

The Torch Run started in Maryland in 1986 and it has grown significantly over the years. It now includes various fundraising activities such as T-Shirt sales, Cover the Cruisers, Tip a Cops and The Polar Bear Plunge. This year, the event brought together hundreds of law enforcement officers and volunteers, showcasing a strong community spirit and commitment to inclusion and support for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
