Volunteer Opportunities

Dear Volunteer:

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Special Olympics Maryland.  Special Olympics Maryland looks forward to the addition of your time and talents to our programs. Prior to volunteering with Special Olympics Maryland, (volunteers working with Special Olympics Maryland must be 16 years of age or older) individuals are required to attend a General Orientation. Dates for upcoming General Orientations are  as follows:

** General Orientation sessions are required for all new coaches, chaperones, volunteers and family members

The General Orientation agenda will be as follows:

  • Introductions

  • Orientation of Special Olympics

  • Volunteer Opportunities

  • Questions and Answers

Directions to each General Orientation site are below. If you are unable to attend the General Orientation you registered for, or have any questions, please call our office at 1-410-290-7611 ext. 6. Thank you again for your interest in Special Olympics Maryland. We look forward to seeing you at orientation.

Please remember to bring the following items with you to the General Orientation. This information is needed when completing your Volunteer Application:

  • Your current Driver’s License (or appropriate photo identification).

  • Contact information-Names, telephone numbers and addresses of 2 non-family references

St. Paul’s school for Girls
*Take the Baltimore Beltway, I-695, to the North of Baltimore (from DC, go west on the Baltimore Beltway from I-95).
*Take Exit 23, Falls Road-Route 25, North.
*At the third light, Seminary Avenue, turn left and the school will be ahead past the playing fields.
*Follow the Special Olympics Maryland signs

Washington College
Chestertown, MD.

From Baltimore And Northwest:
*From Baltimore beltway 695, take I-97 south toward Annapolis, then Rt. 50/Rt. 301 east toward Annapolis and the Bay Bridge.
*Follow Rt. 50/Rt. 301 East past Kent Island, then take Rt. 301 North toward Wilmington at Rt. 50/Rt. 301 split. *After about 7 miles, take Rt. 213 North exit toward Centreville and Chestertown. In Chestertown, Rt. 213 becomes Washington Avenue.
*Turn left at the Greenwood Avenue traffic signal and enter campus through College's North Gate.
*Follow signs to the Cain Athletic Center-Lifetime Fitness Center
From Washington D.C. & West:
*Take the route of your choice to Rts. 50/301 East and follow the signs for Bay Bridge/Annapolis.
*On the Eastern Shore continue on Rts. 50/301 until they diverge in Queenstown and proceed North on Rt. 301.
*Exit Rt. 301 at Rt. 213 North. In Chestertown, Rt. 213 becomes Washington Avenue; turn left at the Greenwood Avenue traffic signal and enter campus through the College's North Gate.
*Follow signs to the Cain Athletic Center-Lifetime Fitness Center
From Points South:
*Take either the Washington Beltway (I-495), I-95, or Rt. 301 to Rts. 50/301 East. *Follow the directions outlined above.

• Proceed for 19.5 miles
• Take the W. Nursery Road Exit (first exit past the BWI Airport Exit)
• Turn LEFT onto West Nursery Rd.
• First RIGHT into BWI Technology Park
• First RIGHT into FRONT parking lot of 513 Progress Drive
• Go to end of FRONT parking lot. Suite P is on RIGHT

From Annapolis and Points East
• From Rt 50 East or West
• Exit #21 onto Route 97 North for 18.3 miles
• Merge onto Route 695 (Baltimore Beltway) West toward Towson
• Exit #7A onto Baltimore Washington Parkway South
• Take first exit - West Nursery Road
• Turn RIGHT off exit ramp onto West Nursery Road
• First RIGHT into BWI Technology Park
• First RIGHT into FRONT parking lot of 513 Progress Drive

* Take I-70 west to I-68 west at Hancock, MD. Continue to the second exit for Frostburg, Exit 33 (Midlothian/ Braddock Road). Bear right and proceed approximately one mile to the main entrance to the FSU campus.
From Morgantown, WV, and west:
*
Take I-68 east to Exit 33 (Midlothian / Braddock Road). Turn left onto Braddock Road and proceed approximately one mile to the main entrance to the campus.
Park in Visitors Lot and proceed to the Lane Center.
