Meet Charles County Coach DAVE BRADSHAW

Dave Bradshaw

Dave Bradshaw is the Maryland nominee for the Special Olympics North America Coach of the Year Award. Dave is a physical education teacher at Maurice J. McDonough High School in Charles County. Dave models, embodies, and exemplifies what every coach strives to be.  His dedication, passion, motivation, and ability to identify and strategize how to best train his athletes and realize extraordinary results is remarkable.

Dave has been a coach for Special Olympics Maryland for 10 years in three sports:  powerlifting, bocce and track & Field.  He has also been recognized for the following awards:

  • Washington Post Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award
  • Maryland Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD) Simon McNeely Outstanding Physical Education Teacher Award
  • Special Education Citizen’s Advisory Committee (SECAC) Teacher Award Charles County Outstanding Teacher Award

Dave continues to create coaching plans to help identify specific goals for each student based on their ability levels.  He works on these skills in an Adapted PE class setting to help these individuals be successful in their extracurricular sport(s).

Dave also takes the time to provide additional competitions opportunities to athletes, and includes athletes in school-based competitions such as powerlifting meets.

Thanks to Dave’s efforts, the Inter-scholastic Unified Sports Program has continued to grow at McDonough High School and has raised awareness for students with intellectual disabilities within the school.

Coach Dave Bradshaw is just one of the hundreds of Maryland coaches leading our athletes and improving their quality of life.
