There is hardly enough time in the day for SOMD-St. Mary’s athlete Kegan Zimmerman. While Kegan, 23, will bowl at the 2010 USA National Games, it’s hardly his only sport. He also participates in athletics, basketball, cycling, equestrian, golf, volleyball, snowshoeing, skiing, soccer and sailing. On top of that, he works six days-a-week at Rivers Edge Catering and Conference Center in Patuxent, Md. It all makes for quite a hectic schedule for the 2007 graduate of Leonardtown High School and the recipient of the SOMD Sportsmanship Award for Cycling in 2008.
Kegan, though, still finds time to hone his bowling game by hitting the lanes five times a week. Speaking over the phone with Kegan, he tells SOMD that the week before the Games, he bowled scores of 150, 157 and a personal-best 197. Having his father, Jason Zimmerman, as his head coach and an ally in the alley who will also make the trip to Nebraska has been comforting for Kegan. “Going [to the National Games] is going to be a great experience for both my dad and I,” he said. “I’ve never done anything spectacular like this before. To meet new people from different programs and states will be terrific.”
