Athlete Profile: Brandon Thompson

Brandon Thompson is excited to travel to Nebraska with his St. Mary’s teammates to represent Team Maryland at the 2010 National Games. Brandon, 21, has been participating with Special Olympics for seven years. Brandon's two brothers, Andrew and Wesley, inspired his involvement with the organization. Brandon also competes in athletics, cycling, sailing, alpine skiing and soccer. Other than sports, Brandon is a part of a club called Antique Power Association, and in addition, works with BAE Systems. Brandon was the 2006 Athlete of the Year and in 2007, had the fastest time in downhill-skiing at the Special Olympics Maryland Winter Games.

On the court, Head Basketball Coach Don Bewick and Assistant Lloyd Grayson are described by Brandon as extremely motivating. Three years ago, Brandon encountered an unfortunate event, tearing his ACL. After rehabilitating his knee, as well as the rest of his body, Brandon said his knee is back to normal. His practice regiment includes practicing twice a week and jogging. Brandon encourages all others competing to “try your best and keep going to the very end.”
