Athlete Profile: Kenny Long

Team Maryland's Kenny Long is powering through until the start of the 2010 National Games, where he will compete in powerlifting. Kenny, representing the Howard County program, is 25 years old and has participated in Special Olympics for 18 years. He also participates in bowling, basketball, softball and volleyball. Other than sports, Kenny enjoys music, movies and cars. In elementary school, he was introduced to Special Olympics and has been involved ever since. In October 2008, he received the Good Sportsmanship Award at Special Olympics Maryland’s Fall Games. To prepare for the National Games, Kenny is training 3-5 times a week with Bill Long, his coach and father. Coach Long encourages Kenny to work hard and do a lot of repetitions when weightlifting. Kenny's advice to others competing is to “do your best, good luck, enjoy the games, and be brave in your attempt.”
