Playing basketball in the 2010 USA National Games will be the greatest accomplishment of Tiffaney Johnson’s athletic career, she said. Tiffaney, 19, is a native of St. Mary's County and has been participating with Special Olympics for 12 years. Her passion to play sports drove her parents to register Tiffaney in Special Olympics at an early age. Managing time is one of Tiffaney’s major obstacles, as she also participates in athletics and volleyball, and works full-time at McDonald's.
Her St. Mary’s basketball team, all of whom will travel to Nebraska for the games, practice multiple times during the week. Minor ankle injuries and knee pains have plagued Tiffaney recently, but she continues to fight through the pain. While winning is what she strives for, having fun and enjoying the game is her ultimate goal. “I’ll always remember this opportunity, and I’m just ready to have fun and enjoy basketball,” Tiffaney said.
