Special Olympics Maryland celebrates National Volunteer Week by recognizing Boy Scout Troop 131

"One thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve." - Albert Schweitzer

Service is something the Boy Scouts know about. And Boy Scout Troop 131 from St. Casimir Roman Catholic in Baltimore, is service personified.

These brave young men, brave because this group manages the onsite distribution of sweatshirts at the annual Polar Bear Plunge - not an easy task, as while the cold weather lends some challenges,  a very large rush of plungers are anxiously and strenuously requesting their coveted sweatshirts. Troop Scoutmaster Stan McLaughlin believes this activity helps the scouts learn how to use their training while interacting with the plungers.  Also, the scouts benefit greatly from meeting a diverse set of individuals and understanding why the Plunge is held and its benefits to Special Olympics Maryland.

Troop 131 eagerly waits to participate in the annual Polar Bear Plunge.  It is one of the anticipated volunteering events is never at loss for volunteers.
