2008 SUMMER GAMES
FACT SHEET

DATE: June 6-8, 2008

LOCATION: Towson University, Towson, MD

EVENT FORMAT: A three-day event including four official sports for Special Olympics athletes and a gymnastics demonstration. Elaborate Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and Special Events celebrate the athletes’ accomplishments. Family activities provide forum for family and friends of the competitors to meet.

2000 volunteers

SPORTS: Aquatics, Athletics, Bocce, Softball (team and individual skills) and a Equestrian

VENUES: Aquatics – Towson University – Burdick Pool
Athletics – Johnny Unitas Stadium
Softball – Dumbarton Middle School
Bocce – Towson University - Soccer Field
Equestrian - Prince George’s Equestrian Center (June 14, 2008)

VOLUNTEERS: Volunteers are recruited from service organizations, corporate businesses, Towson University students and faculty, and the local community.
