Trip: Flatwater Tour Kayaking
Description: kayaking on the Shenandoah and Potomac River
- Harpers Ferry, West Virginia
Date: June 12th, 2005
Time: 8:45-2:00pm
Cost: $15.00 if you bring your own Kayak. Call to get prices
if you need to rent. $15.00 must accompany registration
The opportunity to travel through the heart of the Appalachians will put
you in the midst of magic and beauty. We invite you to explore the ancient
Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. Enjoy discovering the abundant wildlife
that flourishes in these amazing riverine ecosystems. Paddlers often see:
swimming Turtles, cavity-nesting Wood Ducks, elegant Egrets, Belted
Kingfishers, fishing Osprey, and stately Great Blue Herons. You may even
witness the majesty of our nation's bird-the Bald Eagle! So pack your
binoculars, because the current only flows one way, and out here it's just
you and nature... Special Olympics Maryland has arranged for 20 athelte
spots and 10 chaperone spots for this trip. Each chaperone must agree to
work with two athletes. Chaperones must apply to go on this trip and will
be selected based on feedback from existing coaches. Athletes will be
selected on a first come-first serve-first pay basis. Slots may be
reserved but are not considered permanent until payment of $15.00 is
received. This cost covers the cost of transporting Kayaks to the drop off
site and the afternoon pick up and return to River Riders. As well as a
map.
Remember - the guiding is up to you!
Check in is at 8:45 am and we depart at 9:45am. Waivers are available at
River Riders and we will also send some out to confirmed participants.
Please pack all the equipment you think you need for the day including
water and a lunch.
