Maryland athletes highlighted on eve of 2015 World Summer Games

We wanted to share two new articles and re-share an older piece to highlight the level of engagement that ESPN and ABC have taken on as a sponsor of the 2015 Special Olympics Summer World Games in Los Angeles.

Please take the time to read them. I think you will find them worthy of your time.

Catherine Gruss is an athlete from Howard County. Robin Roberts from ABC and ESPN sent a crew to interview Catherine about an impactful experience she had regrading Healthy Athletes and how that changed her life. Once here however the story changed and another side of Catherine came out. That of a fierce competitor. Though she is not attending the World Games her story highlights the impact of Healthy Athletes for athletes here in Maryland but also around the world.

This is the article that came out of the interview.

Terrel Limerick is an athlete from Montgomery County. He will represent Special Olympics USA as a Level 5 sailor at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games from June 25th-August 02, 2015. He competes against some very stiff competition from Norway, Holland, Greece and Australia to name only a few. Terrel works at Special Olympics Inc. and is a Beginner Global Messenger.  Please find this article at http://rocknrobin.tv/lesson-on-the-potomac/

Alicia Gogue is an athlete from Anne Arundel County. She will represent Special Olympics USA as a cyclist at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games from June 25th-August 02, 2015.  Her family has been a support for her every day and that inspires her to be the best she can. ESPN was here in May to film this piece and spent two days getting to know Alicia and her family.

Catherine and Terrel will also be featured on “Countdown to the 2015 Special Olympics with Robin Roberts” is produced by Rock’n Robin Productions. It is part of ESPN’s 2015 Special Olympics World Games coverage lineup and debuts Thursday, July 23 at 9 p.m. on ESPN. It will also air on Saturday, July 25 at 2:30 p.m on ABC and 8 p.m. on ESPN. That will be followed by ESPN’s live, three-hour coverage of the Special Olympics World Games Opening Ceremony (9 p.m.) and will be preceded by ESPN Films’ new 30 for 30 Short, “Brave in the Attempt” (7:30 p.m.).

If you are moved at all by these pieces please let ESPN and ABC know about it. By creating a groundswell of response we can show that people want to see these stories, that we train athletes and that Special Olympics athletes stories matters.

Don’t do it once. Post something every day leading up to the games and during the games. Especially about Maryland and USA athletes.
