Aerotek, a leader in engineering and technical staffing, is in their third year as Presenting Sponsor of the largest single day fundraiser in Special Olympics Maryland history – the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge. But their support doesn’t stop there. In 2005, Tom Thornton, President and CEO of Aerotek, joined the SOMD Board of Directors. Many Aerotek employees volunteer year round at various special events and competitions. “There is no question that when you get involved with this organization, you get back much more than you give,” said Thornton. “The Aerotek family is no exception to that rule.”

In the past five years, Constellation Energy, Inc. has become one of SOMD’s most valued partners on many levels. As the nation’s leading supplier of competitive energy, Constellation Energy has shown support and provided volunteers for various events and competitions throughout the year. SOMD has been designated as a beneficiary of the Constellation Energy Classic – a PGA TOUR ChampionsTour event. As an active SOMD Board of Directors member, John Collins, VP & Chief Risk Officer of Constellation Energy, was the Top Fundraiser for the 2006 MSP Polar Bear Plunge. Many employees have followed his lead through donating, as well as, volunteering!

The Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts, formerly known as The Council of Colts Corrals, is the original and premier fan club of the Baltimore Ravens NFL football team. The organization is fully fan supported and dedicated to football in the Baltimore regional area. The partnership between the Council and SOMD began in 2001 when the Ravens Roost became an official MSP Polar Bear Plunge partner raising over $20,000! The Council began selling raffle tickets for our annual Harley Davidson Raffle. Roost members sell tickets year-round all over the state. The Roosts also lend a hand during the annual Downtown Athletic Club Holiday Party, helping us trick it out Raven’s style!

Comcast, the nation’s leading provider of cable, entertainment, communications products and services, has become one of SOMD’s most valued partners in a very short amount of time. Since, 2004, Comcast has contributed over $1 million of airtime and in-kind services. Through the “Comcast Cares Program” they have provided volunteers at various events and competitions throughout the year. Through this partnership, Comcast has also become a major sponsor of the MSP Winter Water Series (including the Shiver on the River, the Polar Bear Plunge, and the Deep Creek Dunk). “Comcast is very excited about our partnership with SOMD…with our shared values of community and integrity it’s a perfect fit for not only our media opportunities, but also for our employee volunteer program,” said Bruce Abbott, Vice President and General Manager, Comcast Chesapeake Bay Group.

The Elsie and Marvin Dekelboum Foundation honors a lifetime of community service and philanthropy by the entity’s namesakes. A successful developer, Marvin Dekelboum changed the face of Northern Virginia through numerous projects in what is now Crystal City. His wife Elsie was an active supporter of many non-profit organizations and causes in the arts and human services. Throughout their lives, the Dekelboums faithfully made annual contributions to Special Olympics Maryland; therefore, in honor of that commitment, the Foundation’s Board chose to continue supporting SOMD with a $100,000 grant in 2006. |
