David G. Richardson Memorial Award for the Outstanding Special Olympics Maryland Female and Male athlete. The athletes receiving this award have demonstrated commitment to the principles and philosophy of Special Olympics, demonstrated sportsmanship, determination, increased proficiency in sports and exhibited a concern for fellow athletes.
Stanley S. Herr Memorial ALPs Award (Athlete Leadership Program) for an athlete who has demonstrated outstanding service to their fellow athletes and the Special Olympics organization. This athlete will have participated in one of several athlete empowerment programs including Athlete Congress, Global Messenger, SOOPA (Special Olympics Officials Program for Athletes), etc.Tom Bailey Award for the Outstanding Coach. This award is presented to a certified Special Olympics Maryland coach whose commitment to the program enabled athletes to reach far beyond their potential. This individual has shown a high degree of technical skill and personal drive in preparing Special Olympics Maryland athletes for life.
Volunteer of the Year Awarded to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to Special Olympics Maryland at the Area/City/County and State level during the program year. Please indicate the number of volunteer hours, volunteer position(s), committee involvement, etc
Family of the Year This award will be presented to the family who has demonstrated unique and outstanding support of Special Olympics and Special Olympics athletes. Especially important is the extent to which this family has involved other families in the program.
High 5 Award for nominees not fitting into the categories above. Nominees have worked tirelessly behind the scenes in support of Special Olympics Maryland during the past program year.
